We want to hear from individuals and families
around Australia who are currently
in receipt of disability funding in schools
(funding for teacher aides), and
disability training funding (usually in the TAFE
sector or equivalent).
Disability funding in schools (teacher
aides)
We
believes that funding for aides that
is tagged to individual students
can and should be held in a Personal Budget,
under family direction, for allocation to
supports to meet the individual needs of each
student.
We do not think this funding should be paid to
schools or directed by schools in
its use.
Families should be able to complement this
funding with their own money, and
from their child's Personal Budget, select
and appoint the aide or support staff of
their choice.
Our strategy is to link up families around
Australia who are in this situation, and
one by one, school by school, region by region,
engage with principals, education
departments, politicians and Ministers, until
they give in and give families what is
their right - to be in control of funding
allocated for the benefit of their child.
It is all about numbers, and getting organised.
We would like to
hear from families, teachers, principals, and policy makers who
want to work
collaboratively and systematically to make this happen.

Disability funding in post-school training
(TAFE sector or
equivalent)
We
also believes that funding for
post-school training that is tagged to
individual students can and should be held in a
Personal Budget, under individual or
family direction, for allocation to supports
to meet the individual training needs of
each student.
We do not think this funding should be paid to
TAFE colleges or other institutions
or directed by them.
In Victoria, this program of funding is called
Futures for Young Adults. Its
recipients and their families never see the money
- it is paid directly to TAFE or
other institutions.
We would like to
hear from families, students, teachers, trainers and
policy makers who want to work
collaboratively to change this system.
