CONFERENCE

Empowering Individuals and Families in the Human Services

Adelaide, 3 August 2005
Balyana Conference Centre
Clapham (9.30am - 4.30pm)

This one day conference will explore an agenda of empowerment for individuals and families in the fields of disability, mental health, aged care, youth, schools, health care and family support.

By ‘empowerment’ we mean person-centred arrangements in social policy and service provision, as distinct from institution or agency-centred systems
.

Our purpose is to explore what must be done – in communities, services, government departments, social institutions, and philanthropic foundations – to further an empowerment agenda.

Who Should Attend?
  • Consumers (individuals, parents, families) in the human services

  • Support agencies for consumers

  • Innovative service providers seeking to further the empowerment agenda

  • Government agencies seeking ways to empower individuals, families and communities

  • Philanthropists, social investors and entrepreneurs wishing to support innovation

Projects, Models and Strategies
The conference will explore projects, models and strategies which
  • tackle the fragmentation in human services across program, provider, disciplinary and jurisdictional boundaries

  • pool funds from various programs in person-centred practice using budget-holding mechanisms

  • develop person-centred information systems across disciplines and programs

  • introduce new forms of information provision about service availability, quality and pricing

  • develop new governance models for empowerment

  • introduce new learning models for empowerment
